Title of the book :The White Darkness Author: Geraldine Mc Caughrean Publisher: OXFORD UNVERSITY PRESS Publification Date: 2005ISBN number: 9780192726186 No of pages: 262 Price of the book: $13.15
Opening sentence: Read this book and you would never want to put it down The story is about a girl pining for her lover, Captain Oates. Although he had died, Sym was still devoted to him and had placed him in her heart. It also talks about Sym and Captain Oates memories.
The main characters were Sym and Captain Oates. I think the characters were very good. They were matching with the flow of the story. My favourite character was Uncle Victor. He was also named the “fountain of knowledge”. Uncle Victor knows everything under the sky. Ever since Sym’s father died in a car accident, he has been taking care of her. Uncle Victor can be related to Captain Oates. Captain Oates known as Titus Oates also gave advice to Sym to help her solve her problems.
There is another character called Sigurd. In Sym’s head, she thinks that Sigurd likes her. But actually Sigurd is just helping Sym as a precious friend. The story is also about Sym father’s symptoms and Sym’s dad did not even like her. Sym did not care. She continued respecting her dad.
I like the book. My favourite part of the book is on pg 57 chapter Seven “Talk”. My least favourite part of the book was chapter Six “The Ice”. If I could change the story, I would like Sym to find another guy after Captain Oates died. I would like to recommend this book to somebody. The person who likes to read a lot of books would like the book. The person could add it to his collection.
